Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it for both gameplay mechanics and visuals. Common medieval stereotypes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy to make the world seem more authentic, colorful and believable.
Manor Lords provides haphazard city building with complete freedom of placement and rotation. The building mechanics are inspired by the growth of real medieval towns and villages, where major trade routes and landscape influenced the formation and development of settlements.
Expanding from the central market, build your residential, commercial and industrial areas following the natural topography of the area. Build farms based on soil fertility, arrange hunting grounds according to animal populations, and ensure access to sufficient resource supplies and forests to provide the raw materials needed for growth.
Designate housing plots and watch as your villagers build their homes according to the historical pillage plot system. Each area will be divided based on your roads and allocated space, and houses will be scaled accordingly.
Build extensions behind large houses to generate resources that would otherwise be unavailable. Homeowners don't just pay taxes—they grow vegetables, raise chickens and goats, and otherwise provide themselves and other townspeople with necessities beyond what the farms, pastures, and industries you manage can provide.
